From our Southwark family to theirs
“Generosity is easy once you find the opportunity”
“We make a living by what we get but we make a LIFE by what we GIVE” – Winston Churchill
In late 2015, Karl Sibbons, owner of Southwark Developments, heard about a family of six in need. The mother had battled cancer and was in remission while the father was working in northern Alberta. The family was faced with looming hospital bills, a slumping economy, and worse yet their youngest son had recently become ill and required an intensive bout of treatments. The father had requested to be relocated to the city to care for his family, however two months into his transfer he was given an ultimatum to move back up north or face losing his job. Naturally, he chose to stay with his family and subsequently lost his job. In addition to an ill child, recovering wife, piles of bills, and no work; Christmas was fast approaching. With the kindness in his heart, Karl had taken it upon himself and Southwark to fundraise and contribute funds to the family. An outstanding few Thousand dollars was raised in support of the family.
In the above picture, Karl had treated the family to a very special Christmas dinner. After dinner, the children were taken out for Christmas shopping and were given carts to let loose amongst the aisles of toys. The parents were also given carts to let loose in the grocery aisles to ensure they had enough food and supplies to get them through the festive season. Furthermore, the remaining sum of cash and gift cards were presented to the grateful family.
At Southwark, we encourage partners, employees, and clients alike to get involved in their communities through ground-breaking volunteer programs. We inspire them to use their creativity and innovation to have a positive impact on their community.
